Lilie Hsia (b.1988, The Netherlands) is an artist based in Amsterdam and was raised in both Dutch and Chinese culture. 

She gets inspired by Chinese ink art and calligraphy, using strong lines and watery illustrations. Her works are colorful and contain spontaneous scenes of portraits and figures in different settings.

I have a special interest in painting humans and I am always looking for the layer beyond the first glance, painting the true essence and characteristics of the models.

I paint with oil on paper and canvas, with a variety of strong lines, a playful use of brushwork and transparency, that make the models in my paintings come alive.
