Artist Biography​

​

Lilie lives and works in Landsmeer, the Netherlands. She primarily works with oil paint on canvas and Chinese ink on paper. 

​

In her portraits, Lilie explores the person behind what is visible. She is fascinated by the layers within people: the experiences, pain, memories, and emotions that each person carries, but that are not always expressed or even consciously recognized. It is precisely within this vulnerability that she finds something essential and deeply human.

Strong characteristics, both outwardly and inwardly, are a source of inspiration.

Her paintings are not a search for an ideal image, but for something real and personal: the ability to see and embrace as one is.

For Lilie, painting itself is also a process of letting go. Rather than determining everything in advance, she follows her intuition and allows the painting to develop organically.

I paint with a variety of strong lines, a playful use of thick brushwork and transparency, that make the models in my paintings come alive.​​​

Her love for drawing and painting began at an early age. She studied at the Wackers Academy in Amsterdam, graduating in 2023. Since then, she works on commission, has participated in group exhibitions and takes part in painting festivals each year, where she works en plein air (life on location).​​​​​​​​​​
